The Reclusive RockStar

One man: W. Axl Rose

In a rare interview with Rolling Stone in 2006, Rose shed more light on his long awaited Chinese Democracy album, "We're working on 32 songs, and 26 are nearly done," he said in the interview. "People will hear music this year," he said. "It's a very complex record, I'm trying to do something different. Some of the arrangements are kind of like Queen. Some people are going to say, 'It doesn't sound like Axl Rose, it doesn't sound like Guns N' Roses.' But you'll like at least a few songs on there.".

What we call Guns n' Roses

The revised lineup finally made a public appearance in January 2001, with two well-received concerts, one in Las Vegas and one at the Rock in Rio Festival in Rio de Janeiro. The band played a mixture of old hits as well as new songs from their forthcoming album. During their Rock in Rio set, Rose made the following comment regarding former members of the band: "I know that many of you are disappointed that some of the people you came to know and love could not be with us here today. Regardless of what you have heard or read, people worked very hard (meaning my former friends) to do everything they could so that I could not be here today. I say fuck that. I am as hurt and disappointed as you that unlike Oasis, we could not find a way to all get along."
The band now consists of Axl Rose, Dizzy Reed, Robin Finck, Tommy Stinson, Chris Pitman, Richard Fortus, Frank Ferrer and Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal.

In September 2003, radio DJ Eddie Trunk played a new Guns N' Roses song titled "I.R.S." on his syndicated radio show Friday Night Rocks with Eddie Trunk. This was at the insistence of his in-studio guest Mike Piazza, who had apparently received a CD in the mail containing the track. The band's management issued a cease-and-desist order against Trunk, leading him to strip replays of his broadcast of both the song and references to it. Finally April 2005, an excerpt of the song "I.R.S." leaked on the Internet. The band's management referred to it as a "low quality demo," but it was most likely a recording of Eddie Trunk's broadcast of the song from 2003. Eddie Trunk confirmed that "Better" and "Catcher in the Rye" were not on the CD he played "I.R.S." from in 2003. In February 2006, full studio demos of the songs "Better", "Catcher in the Rye", "I.R.S.", and "There Was a Time" leaked online. Brian May confirmed on his blog that he recorded guitar for the "Catcher in the Rye" demo in 1999. On February 20 2007, a new version of the song "Better" was leaked onto the Internet. The song was confirmed real by Dizzy Reed. However, he also said it is not the final studio version. The next day, March 29, 2007 a full studio version of the song "Madagascar" leaked onto a GN'R fan website and is still in circulation. On May 4, 2007, three more tracks leaked from "Chinese Democracy"; the albums title track "Chinese Democracy", "The Blues" and an updated version of "I.R.S." All three tracks had previously been played live and the track "Chinese Democracy" had been partially leaked in March. An updated version of "There Was a Time" was along the 4 songs sent and was leaked on May 6, 2007.

On June 2008, a set of nine songs were released online, including never-heard-before demo version of Prositute, Rhiad and the Beduins and If the World. Discuss on chinesedemocracy.com

On September 2008,It's been a long wait, almost a decade, since fans have heard any official new material from GUNS N' ROSES. With the inclusion of the song "Shackler's Revenge" with ROCK BAND 2 for the X BOX 360 in September, the wait will finally be over. Musically, "Shackler's Revenge" borders on the industrial-flavored attitude of "Oh My God", a song from the "End Of Days" motion picture soundtrack that was released in 1999. A disco-flavored pre-chorus provides a good set-up for the track's wide-open hook, wherein vocalist W. AXL ROSE utilizes his rarely uttered "Mr. Brownstone" voice as well as his trademark, high-pitched scream.
As an introduction to the group's long-awaited "Chinese Democracy" release, "Shackler's Revenge" is a solid track that's heavier in tone than many would expect. In no way should fans assume this rocker to be reflective of the entire project, as previously leaked music has indicated the record will be very diverse in nature. However, the stop-action riffing and fluent lead guitar work present here will most assuredly pique the interest of many a video game aficionado. Discuss on chinesedemocracy.com
